In doing reseach on the movie Barbarella, I found that many of the illustrated posters featured the heroine in a passing pose, with hair flowing beautifully in zero-gravity.
Below is the sketch I decided to work off of, because of the negative and positive space, all while featuring one of her iconic costumes.
Initially I thought to digitally paint the poster, but with time constraints, I felt it was faster for me to vector it out. Below is one of the initial color blocking tests before I decided to go with vector.
Some of the in-progress vectoring.
The completed figure of Barbarella, along with the textured background. To differentiate from the high-contrast 60s posters, I softened the color palette to give balance to the red-heavy logos the be featured on the collateral.
